Our Impact

At Sports Challenge we believe that lives are greatly impacted when people love and invest in each other.  Individual one-on-one mentoring, on an ongoing basis, is its major focus.  However, we realize that an even greater impact is made when we add to that a community of student-athletes on campus who are growing personally and in their faith.  We strive to provide forums for the student-athletes to fellowship with one another and build that type of community.  Ultimately, our vision is that our student-athletes take what they are learning through our mentoring program and in turn, positively affect the lives of the youth in the Bay Area and beyond.

That is why Jim, partnering with Athletes in Action, founded the student club, Cardinal Life, in 1997.  Student-athletes were getting confused about their loyalties between Sports Challenge and other athletic ministries on campus.  It only made sense to put all the athletic ministries under one umbrella.  Since then all team Bible studies, group meetings, etc., are called "Cardinal Life".  It has had a strong effect of producing what Jesus prayed for in John 17:20, 23: "I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message...May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me."(NLT)
