| What We Do |
|
Jim meets weekly one-on-one with 30-35 student-athletes on an ongoing basis, providing them a personal and private setting to discover and learn more about Jesus. Jim is blessed with a listening ear. From politics to sports, family to relationships, Jim is there to listen and offer his perspective on how to thrive through the stresses of a student-athlete’s life at Stanford. The personal conversations that inevitably occur are kept strictly confidential. No topic or question is off limits to discuss as they bring each other up to date on the happenings of the prior week. Jim then leads each student athlete through specifically designed Bible studies, or he modifies the lesson to better equip the student-athlete’s growth in his spiritual walk. This technique not only grows the student-athlete’s faith, but impacts his personal life in a unique and positive way. Most student-athletes grow immensely during their undergraduate years. Jim is often asked by student-athletes from different teams to help supplement their growth by being a resource during their weekly team Bible studies. These studies reinforce the one-on-one meetings and present an opportunity for continued discussion and personal growth. When graduating seniors reflect on their experiences at Stanford, the impact of Jesus Christ and the lessons learned from their time with Jim enables them to go forward with confidence and assurance that their eternity is secure and that they have the tools to prosper spiritually as they pursue their lives after Stanford. Jim is a constant presence on the field at Football practices and games, ready to encourage the players and coaches. He makes a special effort to build relationships with those he does not meet with weekly, because it is almost inevitable that at some point during their years on the Farm their lives will turn upside down. At times like this they will need to be able to talk to someone they know and trust. This approach has proven to be validated too many times to recount. |
