Andy Chan (Chairman) - A former Stanford swimmer, Andy has known Jim Stump for over 20 years and been a Sports Challenge board member for over 10 years. Currently the VP for Innovation and Career Development at Wake Forest University, Andy has experience in strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, organizational effectiveness and educational program design. He serves as leader, executive advisor, mentor and board member in for-profit, non-profit and Christ-centered organizations.
Chris Minaker (Treasurer) - Chris attended Stanford University from 2002- 2006 where he earned both his BA and MA while playing shortstop for the baseball team. Chris met Jim early in his freshman year and began a mentoring relationship that endures through today. Upon graduation, Chris played in both the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros organizations. At present, Chris works in medical device sales and lives in Scottsdale with his wife Jodi and two daughters, Chloe and Whitney.
Jack Mosbacher - A Bay Area native, Jack graduated in 2012, where he was an outfielder Varsity baseball and earned his B.A. in Political Science with Honors in Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law. Jack met Jim Stump on his first day at Stanford and would later serve as Student President of Sports Challenge Ministries. Jack now works as a professional musician and author.

Pat Combs (Chairman) - The impact of sports ministry in Pat’s life is evident from the time he came to faith in Jesus, to discipling athletes for most of his adult life, to Board involvement in sports ministries. Pat & Jim met in Dallas in 2016, and he quickly joined Jim’s Advisory Council and now serves as the Council Chair. Pat is a former USA & MLB baseball player, and serves as a consultant with TeamAlytics (The Flippen Group). He works with current pro athletes, teams, coaches, corporate executives and is also a Director in a private wealth management company. He and wife, Christina, have three sons: Carson, Conner, and Casey.
Wade Nowlin - Wade is a graduate of Baylor University and has been in the Insurance Brokerage Business all of his career. He and his wife Betsy have three daughters and one son-in-law. Wade has been involved with numerous ministries and his church, Watermark Community Church. He has a special interest in mentoring young men and newly married couples. With a mutual interest in sports and mentoring, Wade considers it a privilege to serve alongside Jim Stump and Sports Challenge.
Chris O'Riordan - Chris has known Jim for nearly 20 years after starting a mentorship relationship with him while playing baseball at Stanford University. Currently a Regional General Manager for a real estate technology company and formerly a management consultant, Chris has experience in operations management, organizational change, and strategy.
Doug Kingsriter - Through Vikings teammate Jeff Siemon, Doug met Jim at Super Bowl IX in New Orleans in January, 1975. Jeff was instrumental in opening the door for Jim to mentor Stanford athletes through Stanford football coach John Ralston’s approval. After 4 years of playing with the Vikings, Doug built real estate and publishing companies, subsequently authoring seven children’s books and scripture memory musicals. For the past 23 years, Doug has been a C-level executive in six life-saving national nonprofit organizations.
Gordon Banks - Pastor Gordon Banks is the senior pastor of a thriving northwest ministry, Overcomer Covenant Church. In his early years he played eight years of professional football ending his career with the Dallas Cowboys. He is married to his wife Derozette and they have five children. Together they are leading thousands locally and globally to live a life of purpose in Christ.
Mitch Butler - The husband of Melody and father of three children, Mitch was blessed to meet Jim Stump during a time his son had an accident that blinded him in his left eye. Jim’s first prayer covering his son and family was a blessing, with a friendship born from that time. Mitch has served on the Texas Advisory Council since 2014. Professionally, Mitch is a technology entrepreneur having started four companies over the past twenty years, with one of the companies an IPO in 2002. Currently, Mitch advises and mentors young technology entrepreneurs in work and in life.
Mike Guzzardo - As Jim Stump’s son, Mike grew up around the ministry of Sports Challenge and was able to see first-hand the profound impact it has on college athletes. After graduating college, Mike moved to Texas where he worked for several non-profits before becoming a full-time communicator speaking at live events, television and also authored the book “All In”. Mike now serves as the founder of Mike Guzzardo Ministries where he continues to speak at conferences and churches. Mike also helps nonprofits and churches with strategy and organizational development. He lives in the Dallas area with his wife Alicia and their four children Bella, Mia, Nora and Jaden.
Tobin Swope - A Dallas, Texas native, Tobin attended Stanford and played on the school’s baseball team from 1999-2003. Jim Stump played a pivotal role in the maturation of Tobin’s faith as the two worked together, along with several others, to form a student-athlete’s ministry known as Cardinal Life. After serving as the President of Cardinal Life his senior year, Tobin spent two years playing in the Texas Rangers organization before attending The University of Texas School of Law. Tobin currently lives in Dallas with his wife and three kids and works as a commercial real estate attorney.
Mark Appel - A four year Stanford baseball player (09-13) and #1 overall pick of the Houston Astros in the 2013 draft, Mark met Jim at Stanford during his freshman year. Jim mentored Mark for 4 years while he was a student, and has continued to invest in Mark’s life since graduation. Mark played professional baseball with the Astros and Phillies through the 2017 season and currently lives in Houston, TX. He is also serving on the board of Professional Athletes Outreach, which ministers to MLB and NFL athletes and their families.
Anthony Bookman - Anthony attended Stanford from 1994 – 1998 where he played football and ended his career as the number 3 rusher in school history. He met Jim his freshman year and continued meeting with him throughout his time at Stanford. Anthony is now the Founder and Managing Partner of Alondra Capital, LLC a business development platform focused on third party alternative manager fundraises and growth equity and venture capital direct private placements. He has also lead business development for several companies and partnered with Media companies such as Warner Music Group, Sony ATV and EMI Music Group on business development initiatives.
